Safe Driving Campaign Implementation

A personal note…

DRIVE FOR OTHERS’ LIVES is a world-wide campaign initiated by the International Forgiveness Institute (IFI) that uses scientifically-tested forgiveness principals to encourage developent of prosocial behaviors that will help save the lives of drivers, vehicle passengers, and pedestrians.

At the heart of this life-saving initiative is…

  1. A plethora of safe-driving information that we’ve assembled (and continue to gather) from more than 40 public, private, and non-profit organizations–a treasure trove of data and guidance which can all be accessed at no cost from the website page you are now reading.

A safe-driving public information crusade that will employ public service announcements (PSAs), media alerts, Driving Facts & Figures materials, and newsletters targetting especially-vulnerable younger drivers.

  3. A multi-disciplined team approach to developing–and recommending implementation of–new safe-driving awareness activities based on the results of the latest psychological testing (as well as testing the IFI will initiate on this issue in the future).
    .
  4. Free distribution of a professionally-designed and printed vehicle bumper sticker “DRIVE FOR OTHERS’ LIVES” (shown above smaller than its actual size of 11.5″ x 3″). The sticker’s glossy finish will last for years and the removable adhesive backing will not leave any residue on the surface where it is affixed.

Most importantly, the bumper sticker will alert everyone who sees it (hopefully on one or more of your vehicles) to remember that safe driving practices are not only for you and your occupants but for everyone, because every person is important and every person has inherent worth.

A single life lost to a traffic crash is one life too many because it will mark the end of that person’s tremendous potential and the gifts that he or she could share with family members, our communities, and our world. This campaign is based on one simple purpose–to save lives.

In addition to the horrific crash statistics highlighted in this Safe Driving special section of our website, the total cost of emergency response, health care, and human injury in the U.S. for calendar year 2017 was $433.8 billion. The ongoing costs of treatment for those injured or disabled is staggering. And it is impossible to measure the long-lasting emotional impacts of life-altering injuries or the death of a loved one.

One of the most heart-breaking road crash statistics for me is that road traffic injury is the leading cause of death for people between 5 and 29 years of age. No child should die or be seriously injured while riding in a vehicle, walking along a street or playing anywhere. They have a right to feel safe and we must do everything we can to make that happen.
